Dave Jobson (Ph.D. 1972)
|
Supervisor, Wayne Fuller
"Thanks for sending the
web page addresses. I enjoyed reading them. Seeing the pictures of
Snedecor Hall brings back fond memories. Almost four years of my life
were spent in a third floor office.
I
have just retired from the University of Alberta after 33.5 years and
was appointed Professor Emeritus. I will continue with a part time
teaching appointment for the next two years."

"Just
a quick note to tell Professor Koehler hello for me. I am in SLC and
using my statistics background all the time. I appreciate him and all
the other professors at Iowa State that helped me learn this material
as a distance student. I graduated in 2002, and I will never forget
their professionalism and kindnesses. Best Regards to all!"

Juergen Symanzik (Ph.D. 1996)

"Thanks
for posting the "New Recruits" info on the Alumni Web page. To answer
your question: Alexandar will learn very quickly what the JSM is all
about - because he is likely to celebrate his birthdays (8/10) during
future JSMs in a different city each year - starting with Seattle next
year .
Natascha
and I have jointly attended all JSMs since 1996 - and actually
Natascha's talk this year was scheduled for 8/11 (which turned out to
be after Alexandar's birth) -but Natascha's doctor advised her in
advance better not to travel the last few weeks of her pregnancy. We
were joking afterwards whether Alexandar would have received a lifetime
ASA membership in case Natascha had ignored her doctor's advice. So,
sometimes it is really good to listen to your doctor
All the best,
Juergen, Alexandar (helping with this e-mail), and Natascha

Yan Liu Family

Yan Liu (M.S. 2000), her husband (ISU Ph.D. graduate 2003) and 2 daughters (Hannah, 2 yrs old) and Sabrina (almost 7 yrs old).
Yan writes: "I started
working for the Hutch (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) right
after I graduated from ISU. In the past 5 years, I involved in the
research of Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and Cancer Biomarker for
Early Diagnosis Study. I did lots of survival analysis, proteomics
and micro-array data analysis. It is kind of busy here but I love
it. We had another girl, Hannah, two years ago. She goes to
the Hutch child care center. My older
daughter, Sabrina, who was born at Ames when I started my
graduate program, is almost 7 years old and she will be a second
grader. My husband got his PhD three years ago from ISU. He is
working as a postdoc in a lab at the Hutch too. I am biking to
work for about 40 min everyday."
"I felt very fortunate
that I had studied in our Stat Department. I am using what
learned in ISU everyday, especially in your class of stat511 and
stat501. Your class notes are still one of my best resources to
find formulas and codes. Without the experience at ISU, I
don't think I will be as happy as I am now. I really appreciate for
that."

Benjamin Dale Prins
|
"C'mon dad...give me that remote...it's game-time!"
"I just wanted to share the most
exciting news in my life. My husband Matthew and I welcomed our first
child into this world on October 4, 2005. Benjamin Dale Prins weighed
in at 8 lbs. 6 oz. and was 21 1/2" long. He continues to grow and
thrive, and we are all happy that he is already sleeping though the
night at three months old. I returned to work this week (at Capital
One, where I've been since graduation) and am still adjusting to not
being with Benji all the time.
I sent an announcement to Edith
a month or so ago, so you may have already seen Benjamin's hospital
photo. Here are some more recent snapshots."

Alexandar Michael Symanzik
|
Juergen Symanzik (Ph.D. 1996) and his wife, Natascha wish to share news of the birth of their son, Alexandar Michael Symanzik, who was born on Wed., August 10, 2005, at 1:05am.
Alexandar arrived 2 weeks ahead of schedule and Juergen said, "unfortunately
I missed the birth and still was at the Joint Statistical Meetings
in Minneapolis that day and only got to St. Louis on Friday.
Natascha and Alex were released from the hospital on Friday
evening." Little Alexandar will probably be very curious about
these JSM meetings that caused his father to miss his arrival day!
Juergen adds: "PPS: Attending the conference in Minneapolis until the end revealed one interesting web page:
http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html
While "Alexander" was the #15 of
baby names in 2004 in the US, "Alexandar" does not show up in the top
1000 in any decade - uff ...
And "Michael" is declining - from #1 to #2 now."
