A week of R - Topics |
|
| Mon, 12 - 5 pm |
Introduction to R |
|
You have heard of the software R and are interested, but haven't found the time, yet.
... - in short you are (almost) absolutely new to R. Welcome! This is the course for you!

| Tue, 9 - 5 pm |
A day of R graphics: the ggplot2 system |
|
The package ggplot2 gives a framework to produce elegant, high-end graphical displays following the technical framework of the Grammar of Graphics (Wilkinson 2000). We will use a lot of data examples to work through the basic plots as well as more advanced plots, such as maps, time series charts and maybe even animations!
You should have a good understanding of R to make the most of this course (the previous workshop would get you up to speed for it).

| Wed, 9 - 5 pm |
Data Formatting and Reshaping in R |
|
You are using Excel to get your records sorted out? It takes forever to get records re-formatted from rows to columns? This course focuses on two R packages: plyr and reshape to make data formatting easy.
These packages also provide good ways of producing summaries at all different levels of your data. You are a SAS wiz, but want to make use of R's cool graphics? The reshaping course will give you an idea of how to re-work data in the same way as SAS PROC summary. |
| Thu, 12 - 5 pm |
(Extended) Linear Models in R |
|
You are familiar with statistical models, and you are pretty well-versed in SAS or Stata or SPSS. You would like to know how to get your modelling done in R now? This course is for you! We will start with simple linear models and work our way through generalized linear models to random effects and hierarchical models.
