Graduate Program

Social life

One of the best ways to relieve stress and find enjoyment in your graduate studies is to participate in the Iowa STAT-ers Club. This Club consists of graduate students in Statistics at Iowa State (see the play on words in the title). This club was formed in the 1970s when students realized that life would be better if they created an environment of cooperation instead of an environment of competition. Today the club provides academic opportunities for its members through study groups, membership on departmental committees, student run seminars, and peer advising. Social activities such as the Halloween Party, Valentine's Party, International Dinner and Friday After Class provide opportunities for fun and games. The club organizes intramural teams for most of the sports offered by Recreational Services. The Iowa STAT-ers usually field men's, women's and co-recreational teams. The physical activity provided through these sporting events helps balance the mental activity that comes with the program. All statistics students are encouraged to join and participate in the activities of the Iowa STAT-ers.
