Graduate Program

Admission

Admission is open to college graduates of institutions in the U.S. that are accredited by a recognized regional association or of a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor's degree are essentially equivalent to those of Iowa State. Applicants must rank in the upper half of their classes and have had at least a full year of differential and integral calculus. Taking the General Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is highly recommended.

Application forms and information are available on the graduate college web site. You may either apply online and pay the application fee by credit card or print a copy of the application and return it with a check for your application fee. Except for graduates of Iowa State University, there is a $30 application fee ($70 for international students). U.S. students may request that a paper application be mailed to them. Proficiency in English is an admission requirement. All international students must score at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (Internet-based) on a diagnostic English examination (TOEFL) . Additional English courses may be required for students who are admitted.

Students from other countries must normally be supported by their own universities or governments, or by personal funds. However, some financial assistance is available for outstanding international students. International students must have health insurance while enrolled at Iowa State.
