Public Labs

The department operates several public labs in the building.

1. Snedecor 1105 is our largest computer lab. The machines are Wyse thin clients that connect to our lab Terminal Servers. The lab consists of (44) machines, (2) printers, and an instructor station with a thin client, laptop connection, and a document camera (Elmo).
   
   Due to the size of the room there is no projector but each set of (2) lab computers has a 19" monitor that displays the instructor machine.
2. Snedecor 1207 is our JMP lab. The machines are Wyse thin clients that connect to our lab Terminal Servers. The lab consists of (11) machines and a printer.
3. Snedecor 3121 is our (35) seat computer lab. The machines are Wyse thin clients that connect to our lab Terminal Servers. The lab consists of (35) machines, ceiling mounted projector,(1) printer, and an instructor station with a desktop PC, laptop connection, aond a document camera (Elmo).
4. Carver 205 is our only lab with SPSS. It consists of 24 Dell GX620s, 20 Dell GX270s, (2) printers, an instructor GX620, dual ceiling mounted projects, and a document camera (Elmo)and it has Dell GX620 with Public Printer and Overhead Projector. The combination to the cabinet is here
5. Terminal Servers:
   The Terminal Servers that power our labs are composed of three machines that operate as part of a Terminal Server Farm (TSF) named ts.stat.iastate.edu
   • ts1-stat.stat.iastate.edu
   • ts2-stat.stat.iastate.edu
   • ts3-stat.stat.iastate.edu
   The TSF set up to allow only one logon per user so if your connection is broken you should be able to reconnect to it by using the Remote Desktop Client to reconnect to ts.stat.iastate.edu and you should be reconnected to your session.
   
   Tidbits:
   
   • You may log into the TSF from any machine on campus including the dorms. If you are off campus you will need the Cisco VPN client connected to ISU.
   • The TSF will disconnect an idle sesion after 1 hour of inactivity.
   • The TSF will log off all sessions that have been disconnected for 2 hours.

Policies:

• These labs are open to the public when not in use by classes.
• Carver 205 is open M-F from 7 AM to 8:00 PM.
• The labs in Snedecor are open when the building is open unless there is a class in session.
• Statistics Grad students have access to the labs after hours using their keycards.
• If a machine is logged in please find another one. If there are no others then it is permissable to log the person off or restart the thin client.
