How to
Enable Earlier Versions (before version 7) of JMP to Run on
Microsoft's Vista
JMP 6 is not certified to run on Vista. However
the following
"fixes" may enable JMP to work with this new operating system.
JMP 6 Shrinkwrap will not run on Vista if "User Account
Control"
(UAC) is enabled. In addition, for a regular "Standard User" account
with minimal privileges, JMP will not Install at all. For Annual
License, JMP has to be installed in a more privileged mode, and then
can be run on the Standard User account. You can only run Shrinkwrap on
Vista with an Administrator account with UAC disabled.
If you are not familiar with the Vista "User Account Control"
feature,
it is a way of running in Administrator mode only when necessary.
Basically, the operating system runs most things as a Standard User.
When elevated privileges are required (to run, install, delete, etc.),
the operating system either prompts for an "OK" or prompts for
credentials.
If UAC is not enabled, Vista will keep asking you to enable
it.
Disabling UAC, though, is much more hidden. To disable UAC, follow
these steps:
- Bring up Control Panel - Administrative
Tools
- Select Local Security Policy
- Select Security Options
- Scroll toward
the bottom. In the field "User Account Control: Run
all Administrators in Admin Approval Mode" select "Disabled" by double
clicking the "Enabled" field.
- It is also
recommended to disable "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for
the Built-In Administrator Account".
