After Step1, Windows should automtatically configure the firewall to allow Remote Desktop connections.  If you want to make sure this has been done, select:
Start>ControlPanel>WindowsFirewall>Exceptions.  Displayed alphabetically, you should see the Remote Desktop box checked as shown below.  If you don't see it (which is highly unlikely), you can add the Remote Desktop option by selecting "Add Program" and entering the following:  C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe.

Identify Your Office Computer Network Name and/or IP Number :
To identify your office computer network name, do the following:
Select Start>Run and type: cmd in the Open: box.  This will open a Command Window.  In the command window, type the following:
cls
ipconfig/all
Scroll to the top of the display to obtain the Host Name of your machine.  The network name for using Remote Desktop with either be your Host Name with .stat.iastate.edu appended to it, or iastate.edu appended to it.  For the example below, the network name for Remote Desktop will be: kathy-d620.stat.iastate.edu.

If you cannote connect with the network name, you can enter the IP number.  This can easily be obtained by typing the following from the Command Window (not using the /all option):
ipconfig
Then just use the IP Address for your wireless or wired Adapter.  Do not use the AFS adapter IP Address.
