S-Plus

S-PLUS by Insightful, Inc., is a statistical software package that is available on Windows PCs and on Project Vincent. This software is freely available to any ISU student, staff or faculty.  Online manuals can by found at Insightful's web site: http://www.insightful.com/support/
S-Plus 8.1.1:
Version 8.1.1 CDs are not available.  However, Splus 8.1.1 can now be downloaded  (271MB) from a campus file server.  You can bring your laptop to campus and follow the instructions below to download.  If you have a desktop, bring a USB flash drive to Pearson 0113, download the software to your flash drive and then you can install Splus on your desktop at home with the flash drive.   Following are instructions for downloading.  
Step 1: Open "My Computer" and enter this in the address box:
\\kemp\public
Step 2: Right-Click on the splus8.1.1 folder and copy it to your local C: drive
Step 3: From "My Computer", double-click the C:\splus8.1.1 folder, then double-click on setup.exe and follow instructions

S-Plus 6.2:
Version 6.2 CDs are not available.  However, Splus 6.2 can now be downloaded  (309MB) from a campus file server.  You can bring your laptop to campus and follow the instructions below to download.  If you have a desktop, bring a USB flash drive to Pearson 0113, download the software to your flash drive and then you can install Splus on your desktop at home with the flash drive.  This version of Splus works best with Professor Meeker's SPLIDA software.  Following are instructions for downloading.  
Step 1: Open "My Computer" and enter this in the address box:
\\kemp\public
Step 2: Right-Click on the splus6.2 folder and copy it to your local C: drive
Step 3: From "My Computer", double-click the C:\splus6.2 folder and follow the instructions in README.txt
which includes the serial number you will need for installation.

S-Plus 7:
Version 7 Installation CDs are available in the Main Office of the Statistics Department at Wilson Hall.  To check out the CD, you must bring a photo ID with you to leave with personnel while the CD is checked out to you.  Checkout CDs are no longer available at Pearson Hall.

Renewal instructions for S-Plus 7 or 8.0 (Steps are shown for version 7,  just replace "7" with "8" for version 8):
Note:  S-Plus 7 and S-Plus 8.0 (expire June 30, 2009)
Step 1: Rename or Erase Current .lic license files:
The .lic files for Windows Splus 7.0 are usually stored in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Insightful\splus70\adm\lic\keys
From this folder, either rename or erase the .lic files
Step 2: Run the License Wizard to obtain the network card mac address :
Start->All Programs->S-PLUS 7.0->Wizard for License Manager
Highlight and copy <Ctrl C> the disk serial number address that follows this message:
"The hostid of  this machine is: xxxxxxxxx
Step 3: Obtain the license code from Insightful's web site and save to your computer :
From a web browser, go to http://keys.insightful.com
Select "I have a License Authorization Code"
Enter the 2008/2009 ISU code: US-000165897-108485-64700
Click the "Generate Licenses Button"
On the Select Licenses to Fulfill page, in the "Node-locked Hostid Type" field, select "ETHERNET" from the drop-down list.  In the "Node-locked Hostid" field, enter the hostid from Step 2 above.
Click the "Generate" button, then the "Confirm" button if all looks okay.
Click the "Save to File" button and save it to: C:\ProgramFiles\Insightful\splus70\adm\lic\keys folder

Step 4: Test renewal by running Windows Splus 7.0
