It may come as a surprise but statistics and data analysis can be truly fun. In interactive data visualization, we use the computer not only to make pictures of data, but to poke around in them and to paint them -- literally -- while gaining insights along the way. On top, we use the computer not only to fly through 3-D data spaces, but to fly through 4-D, 5-D... spaces, again in insightful ways. This approach to data analysis is somewhat playful, but it produces results and unique understanding if combined with serious thinking.
