        TITLE:
Mapping Quantitative Trait Loci through Principal Components
        Regression

        ABSTRACT:

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) are genes that affect the quantitative characteristics of plants and animals.  QTL are typically mapped by searching for associations between genetic markers and the trait of interest.  New technologies are enabling the construction of highly dense maps of molecular markers.  QTL mapping in line crosses can be viewed as a regression problem with a large number of highly collinear categorical predictor variables.  Strategies for detecting QTL and estimating their effects through principal components regression will be presented.
