TITLE:
The VIGRE Program in Statistics at Iowa State

ABSTRACT:
The Department of Statistics has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to implement a program called Vertical Integration of Research and Education (VIGRE).  This program has the potential and the intent to affect the educational experience of all PhD students in statistics.  It also can serve as a vehicle to strengthen interdisciplinary research between statisticians and applied scientists.  This seminar is intended to serve as an informational meeting for students and faculty as the VIGRE program begins to take form.  What was promised in the successful proposal?  How do individuals become involved?  What are the intended benefits to individuals that participate in the program?  The formal presentation will address these questions, and leave time for open discussion.
