TITLE: Some Issues in the Design of R

ABSTRACT:

R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics
which is similar to the S language and environment developed at Bell
Laboratories. R was initially written by Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka,
and is now developed and maintained as an open source project by a group of
researchers in North America, Europe, and New Zealand.  R serves both as a
tool for scientific work and as a test bed for research on statistical
computing environments, and the design of the R system is evolving to keep
pace with both of these uses.  This talk provides a brief review the of
history and organization of R project, and then describes some recent and
planned changes in the design and structure of R.
