Seminars

Department seminars are generally held on Mondays at 4:10 pm.  During Fall semester they will usually be held in Carver 305.  These seminars feature discussions of statistics research presented by faculty, advanced graduate students, and distinguished visitors.  Faculty and students from all disciplines are invited to attend.

In addition to the general department seminars, we host several research discussion groups that bring together small groups on a regular basis to discuss particular topics of interest to our faculty and graduate students in Statistics and other disciplines.  These groups provide a forum for younger graduate students to learn about current research interests of our faculty and discover potential topics for dissertation research.  Sometimes research discussion groups spend the entire semester reading and discussing literature on an emerging research topic, or discussing challenges in applying statistical methodologies to research in the biological, environmental, engineering, social, behavorial or financial sciences.  This is also a forum in which faculty and graduate students can present new research ideas and engage in critical discussion of their proposals and results. Research discussion groups are usually organized by the third week of the semester.  They generally meet weekly, but they may skip some weeks or change a meeting time to accommodate visitors.  Please watch for email notices from the organizer about the topic of the week.  Research discussion groups and the topics they consider vary from semester to semester.  Current research discussion groups are listed below.  Anyone with interest is invited to attend.
