A Minor in Statistics
The department of Statistics offers a minor in statistics which can be earned by completing an introductory course in statistics plus a selection of additional courses from the set of 341, 342, 361 and 400 level courses. Coursework has to yield a total of at least 15 credits from statistics courses. The minor must include at least 9 credits that are not used to meet any other department, college, or university requirement. Courses taken for a minor may not be taken on a pass-not pass basis. Some examples of minors are given below.
- Statistics Minor: Applied
- Introductory Level Course: one of Stat 101 or 104.
- Intermediate Level Course: Stat 401.
- Elective Courses: choose three from Stat 361, 402, 404, 406, 407, 415, 432, 451, 479 and 480.
- Statistics Minor: Theoretical
- Introductory Level Course: Stat 101L (spring).
- Theory Sequence: Stat 341, 342.
- Intermediate Level Course: Stat 401.
- Elective Courses: choose one from Stat 361, 402, 404, 406, 407, 415, 432, 451, 479 and 480.
- Statistics Minor: Business
- Introductory Level Sequence: Stat 226, 326.
- Intermediate Level Course: Stat 401.
- Elective Courses: choose three from Stat 361, 402, 404, 406, 407, 415, 432, 451, 479 and 480.
- Statistics Minor: Engineering
- Introductory Level Course: Stat 105, 231, 305, 322, or 330..
- Intermediate Level Course: Stat 401.
- Elective Courses: choose three from Stat 361, 402, 404, 406, 407, 415, 432, 451, 479 and 480.

In choosing courses to fill out your 15 credits, pay close attention to course prerequisites. In order to formally declare a minor in Statistics, you must fill out a Request for Minor form (available from your academic adviser or from the Undergraduate Secretary in the Main Office of Wilson Hall). Before you fill out this form, you should have a good idea of which courses you will use to fulfill the requirements of the minor.
