Statistical Challenges in the Analyses of Human Microbiome Data

The human microbiome can have a major impact on human health, by promoting beneficial interactions and by damaging host tissues. The human microbiome studies have recently been accelerated by the advent of high-throughput technologies and the surge of national support. My research group has been recently focused on developing novel statistical methods in analyzing microbiome data, including microbiome association test, longitudinal microbiome data analysis, and microbiome causal/mediation modeling. In the talk, I would like to review the statistical challenges in microbiome data analysis and share some recent research results in my group with the audience.
