Suggested prep work:

Default graphics can show a lot.  Improved and polished graphics make it easier to see information and reveal more.
Studying initial graphics and then comparing pairs of original and amended graphics “illustrate the process”: The talk will include a number of these pairs of graphics.

Have a look at the two initial graphics that I drew and see what information you can find in them.  What suggestions do you have for improving the displays?

1) Astronauts
The data are from TidyTuesday (Astronaut Database).  The graphic shows the mission times of astronauts in hours plotted against the year of flight.

2) Gapminder
The data are from the Gapminder website (http://www.gapminder.org).  The graphic shows life expectancy at birth for 187 countries over 217 years.
