Julia for R Users Workshop Series

Julia for R Users Workshop Series

Apr 8, 2024 - 3:30 PM
to Apr 8, 2024 - 5:00 PM

Inspired in part by Kenneth Lange's talk at our conference last fall, STAT-ers is sponsoring a series of 'Julia for R users' workshops. This series is intended as a hands-on experience to get you writing your own Julia code for common tasks in statistical computing. The interest in Julia is that it runs faster than R, while maintaining a friendly coding experience.  The idea is not to replace R with Julia, but to integrate Julia into your workflow where appropriate for better performance.

Sessions are planned to be held 3:30-5pm on the following Mondays:

March 25th: Installation help, basic differences between Julia and R, writing your first Julia program

April 1st: Using packages, Distributions in Julia, monte carlo simulations

April 8th: Data frames in Julia, additional coding exercises

April 15th: Integrating Julia into R with the JuliaCall package, tips for better code performance

Location is TBD. There will be no remote option for attendance, due to the difficulty of assisting remote participants.

IF AT ALL INTERESTED: please fill out this one question survey so we can get an idea of what attendance will be like.
