Title: Statistics in the Cryospheric Sciences
Abstract: We will review some research contributions at the intersection of the cryospheric sciences (e.g., glaciology) and statistical modeling and inference. Amongst these contributions are a spatiotemporal statistical model for glacial dynamics based on the physical-statistical Bayesian hierarchical modeling framework, a tensor-based emulator, and neural-network based emulation of sea level change at various locations across the globe, with statistically principled uncertainty quantification. Real-data analysis from the Icelandic glacier Langjökull will be presented in support of these statistical models and methods. While the contributions discussed have been developed in the context of glaciology, they are extensible to additional scientific disciplines.
