Department Hosts 75th Anniversary Research Conference

The Department of Statistics hosted a research conference to celebrate our department's first 75 years (1947-2022).  Distinguished lectures were presented by Xiao-Li Meng (Harvard University), Karen Kafadar (University of Virginia), Rina Foygel Barber (University of Chicago), Eric Tchetgen Tchetgen (University of Pennsylvania), Scott Vander Wiel (Los Alamos National Laboratory), Soumendra Lahiri (Washington University), Hal Stern (University of California, Irvine), Kenneth Lange (University of California, Los Angeles), and Emmanuel Candes (Stanford University).  In addition to these distinguished lectures honoring George W. Snedecor, Henry A. Wallace, C. R. Henderson, Wayne A. Fuller, Gertrude M. Cox, Herbert A. David, Laurence H. Baker, and George Zyskind, the program featured a presentation of key people and historical events leading to the department's formation, talks by many alumni, a poster session that showcased the work of current students, a reception in Snedecor Hall, and a banquet.
