Tyler Laube Named First Recipient of Morrison Excellence Fund Scholarship

Tyler LaubeTyler Laube, a double major in mathematics and statistics, has been named the first recipient of the Dr. Robert Morrison and Anne Morrison Excellence Fund scholarship.

Laube transferred to Iowa State as a junior, originally pursuing only a mathematics degree. During his first semester, he took a statistics course that sparked his interest in the field. He said after discussing his options with his advisor, he made the decision to become a double major.

“I learned very quickly that the statistics program was the right choice for me,” Laube said. “All of the professors I had for classes were super engaging and helpful when I had questions.”

Laube said receiving the Morrison Excellence Fund scholarship was an honor, and he hopes to honor that recognition by working hard and setting a positive example for future students.

“It was the first scholarship I had received from the college, so it made me feel like my work was getting noticed,” he said. “At the time, I didn't realize I was the first ever recipient of the scholarship. Knowing that now, I feel even more gratitude and honor.”

Laube plans to graduate in December 2025 and hopes to pursue a career in statistics or mathematics in the Des Moines or Ames area.
