“I feel so proud that I took statistics as my major,” says alumna Srilikitheswari Korrapati, who graduated in Fall 2025 with a statistics degree and mathematics minor.
Korrapati transferred to Iowa State University in 2023. Initially a computer science major in India, she decided to major in statistics because she wanted to learn how a “bunch of numbers gives you an insight and that affects you in real time.”
She knew then that statistics are everywhere, and she continues to observe this after graduating, “Statistics is the core. It is the best foundation for everything.”
Korrapti is now an automation and data systems engineer at the Rasmussen Group. Within her role, she is designing data pipelines for business workflows. As the data is translated, it will be used for statistical testing and machine learning to create further optimization.
As a student, Korrapti gained work experience prior to graduation and full-time employment:
- Undergraduate Research Assistant for Water Erosion Prediction Project with professor Jarad Niemi, who taught Korrapti, “how to research.”
- Data Analyst Intern for Iowa Department of Transportation
- AI Construction Research Intern for the Rasmussen Group
Korrapti is most appreciative of how the university was there for her when she experienced the loss of two important people, “It was a really beautiful place. It helped me to heal.”
