Kasper earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Iowa State and has been connected to the department since 2007. During his graduate studies, he discovered a passion for teaching, leading courses almost every semester.
That experience helped shape his career path and solidified his goal to remain in academia. He joined the department as teaching faculty in Fall 2015. He approved for advancement to teaching professor in May 2026.
“I knew I wanted to stay in the university setting and continue to teach classes,” Kasper said. “I love Iowa State, so I definitely hoped something would open up in the department.”
His dedication to teaching has earned him multiple honors, including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Early Achievement in Teaching Award and the LAS Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Introductory Teaching. Most recently, he was announced as a recipient for the LAS Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching (Term Faculty).
