Student Spotlight: Matt Pischke answers questions with statistics major

A person wearing a white lab coat stands indoors in a laboratory setting with shelves, containers, and a window in the background. The person faces the camera, with one hand partially raised, and wears a dark hoodie underneath the lab coat.Matt Pischke found interest in statistics and math throughout high school but ultimately decided on his major after realizing how it answered questions.

“The part that drew me into it was being able to take data and numbers and explain what they mean. You can use the results to answer certain questions.”

Pischke is a sophomore statistics major with a biology minor. He is a member of the Undergraduate Statistics Club and is working towards becoming a student ambassador for the department.

As an involved student in the department, Pischke encourages other students to get involved and be willing to reach out and ask for help.

Pischke recently added a biology minor and is interested in the application of statistics within biostatistics and pharmaceutical research.

“There are so many ways to use statistics. I'm excited to learn more about biology and focus on that aspect of how statistics can be used.”
