Feedback on Past Regional eCOTS
High school teachers:
“I enjoyed the discussions regarding which content best fits within Intro Statistics. Next year will be my first time teaching AP Statistics / Concurrent Statistics, and while I do not think I will have too much say in the topics I may cover, hearing the different discussions regarding why people felt certain things were more or less important helped to give me perspective once my class gets going. I also enjoyed the discussion on DEI. I had not really previously thought about how data sets could have the social and cultural implications that they may, so now I feel I will be better aware of the message the data sets I choose to use may communicate.”
“I really enjoyed participating in a workshop and conference just for teaching statistics. Most of the conferences to which I have been relate more to general teaching practices and new ways to invigorate instruction in the mathematics classroom, but this one being so focused on learning more about the content and field itself was very practical.”
College faculty:
“I enjoyed getting together with individuals who are all looking to improve their teaching! It was great to exchange ideas and just meet people again.”
“I don't have any opportunities to talk to high school teachers about Data Science. This allowed for that experience. Additionally, hearing real, normal faculty, talking about their struggles with DEI was... comforting? I think it highlights a very strong still existing need for more faculty dev in that area. I hope this happens in future years. Being an isolated statistician it is very valuable time. Thank you for your time!”
